Blue Note Records is one of the oldest American Jazz Record Labels. Established in 1939, its name was inspired by the blue notes of jazz and has attracted many leading artists from the jazz hall of fame including Sidney Bechet, Freddie Hubbard and Horace Silver in the early days to Norah Jones, Van Morrison and Gregory Porter in more recent years.
Similarly to Motown Records, Blue Note wanted to build on their legacy and modernise their offering to fans and artists alike. The Creative Corporation were commissioned to create an interactive site that showcases the Jazz genre as well as their artists’ back catalogue, allowing fans to buy or live stream classic and modern jazz.
As a team, we relished this project and its creative opportunities and designed the whole site from wire frames to final execution. Subtle design hues bring jazz to the forefront of the modern day – an example is the timeline showcasing every album and artist since 1939 chronologically. Rather than a static display, this page presents the label’s back catalogue as a jukebox/iPod carousel for users to select their tunes of choice – functionality unique to this site alone. All live dates are automatically pulled through to each artist’s page with the option to feature products on the homepage carousel.
