Synonymous with the sound of sixties soul, Motown Records defined an era and created a sound that stretched far beyond a small studio in Detroit. Motown Records began recording a distinctive musical style – gospel-influenced vocals mixed with a sound like no other. Sounds that would become anthems. Voices that became legends.
Our objective was to help reposition the Motown label for the next generation. Retaining the iconic ‘M’ logo and giving the record label a fresh visual aesthetic that would extend into a new label website and digital style guide. This was achieved by bringing a more vibrant colour palette into the equation, combined with a modern font and a new tone of voice to all communications.
The new label website needed to be strategic, beautiful and fully integrated into Universal Music’s central digital infrastructure. Built on WordPress, packed full of the very latest music streaming technology and a content management system that has allowed the record label to manage and merchandise their website as they need. Simple and powerful.
The website has won multiple awards, including ‘Site of the day’ on AWWWards and Creative Pool ‘Best Website 2019’.
Icons of disco, there are few households who haven’t heard of the Gibb Brothers (and at the very least tried to emulate Travolta’s moves on the dancefloor). One of our favourite websites, which adopts an individual colour palette for each album and telling the story of their incredible sixty-year career.
